farm-stay retreat.

Black Mountain Hideaway epitomizes the beauty of the Hinterland. It's world heritage site surroundings include the majestic Mowbray Falls rambling 120 meters down cliffs and the lowlands to the seascape of the Great Barrier Reef.

Farm Stay

Relax and unwind in our rustic hilltop farm nestled in the air conditioned Port Douglas Hinterlands, Australia. Black Mountain Hideaway's mild and less humid climate allows you to enjoy the tropics in a less sticky way! The picturesque farm is located 35 minutes drive from Port Douglas and easy access from Cairns, through scenic tropical North Queensland, Australia.

At Black Mountain Hideaway, we have a Cattle and Equestrian Centre. We also own a menagerie of various exotic birds, chickens, ducks, cats and dogs. All the animals are treated as part of the family and they enjoy making new friends and receiving love and attention.

Outside breakfast

Black Mountain Hideaway offers fully self contained accommodation lodges; horse trail rides; guided bush walks; a host of wildlife and bird spotting; Jillaroo courses and horse riding clinics for Horse Safe accreditation. Or, Simply relax in total, undisturbed privacy.

About us

Suzie was born and brought up on a cattle station in central Queensland and much of her childhood competing at championships all over the state. She began competing when she was only 18 months old. Her family bred and trained horses from their horse stud with an equestrian complex attached.

Suzie Suzie and her family have competed at a national level in dressage, showjumping and cross country. Also the family travelled extensively to compete successfully at rodeo events, western and other disciplines.

Suzie has been a college teacher of many subjects, she has also taught Horse care & Management courses and has over 20 years experience teaching people how to ride, manage and care for horses.

Thereby, Suzie is experienced and trustworthy with children and loves working with animals. She is also very talented in sharing her knowledge and experience, not only with very small children, but also with adults and less-abled people.

Suzie’s knowledge of the individual horses is extensive, which means she will be able to match horse and rider. All horses have been trained by herself especially for our trail & teaching centre. At Black Mountain Hideaway, we have save, trustworthy and quiet horses ensuring that all risks are minimized in compliance with horse safe.
Prices

2 Hour trail: $ 80 per person

4 Hour trail: $ 176 per person

Lessons: $ 50 per person per hour plus

Jackaroo and Jillaroo 5-day Courses: $ 550 per person

Full day ride of rainforest and outback (exotic tropical lunch provided )

Fully catered overnigt ride camps. 

We can taylor a package of riding /accomodation /food and beverage/self cater to suit your particuar requirements.
